Computer in Nepal

Scope of computers in the context of Nepal :

The recently held CAN Infotech 2002 was a hit compared to the previous shows from CAN before. There was a lot of movement this year on the show, which clearly goes to prove that the amount of interest given to computers has greatly increased lately. More and more people turn into institutes for gaining knowledge on computers, and even more of such institutes are opening up recently. This clearly shows that more and more people have been attracted towards IT. Today, in this ever changing world, we have seen that IT has got a big potential. Most people are attracted towards IT because of the job value that it has uplifted in the recent years. IT has also been liked by many because of it's ease of understanding and the tremendous revolution that computers have brought about in the world today.
Computer Technology is making a difference and we can feel it more and more every day. Usage of technology in various walks of life, some in posh, big offices and some in villages with erratic power supply are expected soon, and once that happens, computer access for all will be a reality. In Nepal too, we have been seeing a lot of positive attractions to the usage of computers.
In the context of a developing country like Nepal, IT does have a lot of scope. Today, Government offices and a lot of other institutes are rapidly being computerized, and computer training has been made a must in most of these offices. This clearly shows that computers have found a way into our lives too. In Nepal, computer mainly finds it's usage in commercial fields. Banking is the biggest user of IT in Nepal. Usage of computers for assisting people can also be seen in Departmental stores, restaurants, travel agencies and hotels. And it is not only the filthy rich that utilize this aspect of technology. Nepali workers working in Arab and other countries use the money transfer system to transfer their hard earned money to relatives in Nepal. Also, travel trade agencies have used computers in order to get their jobs done easily and quickly.
In certain villages of "Palung" and "Namche", computers have been used in order to provide a familiarity to computers to the people of such rural areas. Also, more and more of the digital revolution have been seen in other parts of Nepal by the starting of more and more computer institutes and cyber cafes. This clearly shows that it is not only Kathmandu that has been under the digital revolution lately.
As in other fields, people of Nepal have a scope of loads of employment the world over through computers. It has been seen that a lot of computer professionals from our neighbor India have been called for employment aboard. Similarly, by getting more people involved in IT, we can also attract other countries towards the so created computer manpower. Not only that, we can start up a lot of industries and companies related to computers in our own country, so that even Nepal gains a reputation as an IT Superpower.
